Why We Created the Assist Guide: Because No One Should Navigate Crisis Alone

When we first began designing the Life Management Instructions Kit™, we had a clear vision: to make it easier for families to prepare for life’s inevitable transitions. But as we worked through the structure and content, we realized something deeper—something that shaped one of the most important additions to the Kit: the Assist Guide.

The Conversation No One Wants to Have

One of the biggest hurdles to preparedness isn’t a lack of information—it’s the reluctance to talk about it. Whether it’s a parent hesitant to share financial details or an adult child unsure how to ask, these conversations are often avoided until it’s too late.

And that hesitation exists on both sides:

  • The person completing the Instructions may feel overwhelmed or vulnerable.
  • The person who will eventually carry them out may feel unprepared or afraid to ask questions.

We created the Assist Guide to bridge that gap—to give both parties a shared language and a starting point.

Designed for the Real End User

While the Kit is filled out by the person preparing, we always had someone else in mind: the person who will one day need to carry out those Instructions. They are the true end user. Every form, every section, every piece of guidance was designed to make their job easier in a moment that’s likely to be emotionally and logistically difficult.

The Assist Guide is their companion. It walks them through what to expect, what to prioritize, and how to move forward with clarity and confidence.

And it’s easy to use—because it follows the exact same order as the Instructions themselves. Each section is organized by form number, so there’s no guesswork, no flipping back and forth. Just a clear, steady path forward.

Financial Concepts, Made Practical

As the Kit evolved, we realized it was doing more than organizing documents and collecting information—it was quietly teaching. The Instructions reflect a comprehensive set of financial planning concepts, applied in a deeply practical way. Not everyone will have a trust, a donor-advised fund, or a foreign investment account—but many will encounter these terms for the first time when helping a loved one.

The Assist Guide helps demystify those concepts. It’s not a textbook—it’s a flashlight in a dark room.

Working with Trusted Advisors

For many, this may be the first time they’re dealing with attorneys, accountants, or financial advisors. That can be intimidating. The Assist Guide outlines what to expect from these professionals, how to ask the right questions, and how to lean on them without feeling overwhelmed.

Because the truth is: you don’t have to do it all alone. And you shouldn’t.

Final Thought

The Assist Guide is more than a companion to the Instructions—it’s a companion to the person stepping into a role they never asked for, but are determined to fulfill with love and care. We created it to honor them. To support them. And to remind them: you’ve got this—and we’ve got you.
