What is the Life Management Instructions Kit™?

It’s a digital toolkit that helps you organize essential personal, financial, and medical information—so your loved ones can step in with clarity if something unexpected happens.

Who is this kit for?

Anyone who wants to be prepared. It’s especially helpful for:

  • Adults caring for aging parents
  • Single individuals who want to protect themselves
  • Couples planning their estate and planning for emergencies
  • Families navigating medical or financial transitions

What’s included in the kit?

You’ll receive four downloadable PDFs:

  • Read This First – Quick-start guide
  • The Instructions – Fillable forms for your key information
  • Insights – A companion guide for completing the Instructions with tips and examples
  • Assist – A guide for the person who may need to carry out your instructions.

Is this a legal document?

A legally binding document? No—but an essential companion to them.

The Life Management Instructions Kit™ is not a substitute for legally binding documents such as a will, power of attorney, trust agreement, or beneficiary designation. Instead, it complements those tools by organizing the practical, day-to-day information your loved ones will need to make informed decisions.

We highly recommend consulting professionals with the expertise to prepare legally binding documents and to provide tailored legal, tax, and investment guidance. The Kit helps bridge those formal strategies with real-world clarity and the logistics of how to access and manage assets and property.

How do I fill it out?

It’s a fillable PDF—no special software needed. You can complete it on your computer or tablet, save your progress, and update it anytime. The Read this First document gives you instructions on using and saving fillable PDFs.

Can I print it?

Yes! Many people print a copy to keep in a safe place or share with a trusted contact. You can also store it digitally with password protection.

What if I don’t know all the answers?

That’s perfectly okay. The Kit is designed to meet you where you are. You can complete it in stages and revisit it as your life or circumstances change. The Insights Guide is there to prompt the kinds of questions you might not have thought to ask yet — helping you uncover what matters most. That’s the beauty of the Kit: it doesn’t expect perfection, just progress.

Is my information secure?

Your data stays with you. The Kit is a downloadable file—you’re in full control of where and how it’s stored.

Can I use this for my parents or someone else?

Absolutely. Many users fill it out with a parent or loved one, or gift it to someone who needs help getting organized.

What if I have questions while filling it out?

The Insights guide walks you through each section with examples and tips. And if you need more support, we’re here to help. See the Contact Us button below.

How do I store or share it safely?

You can save it digitally with password protection or print a copy to keep in a secure place.

How do I bring this up with my parents?

Start with empathy: “I want to be able to help you the way you’d want—if something ever happened.” The Life Management Instructions Kit™ offers a neutral, structured way to open the conversation. The Assist Guide included in the kit is designed for exactly this moment—it helps both generations understand what’s at stake, what to expect, and how to collaborate without overwhelm or judgment.

What if they’re resistant?

You can offer to fill it out together or start with just one section—like emergency contacts or medical info. Sometimes seeing the layout helps ease the tension. The Assist Guide will provide you with some good tips on this.

Can I use this for both parents?

Yes! You can fill out one kit per person or duplicate the file and label them separately. It’s especially helpful if one parent is the primary decision-maker.

What if I live far away from the person I'm assisting or who is assisting me?

The digital format makes it easy to collaborate remotely. You can even schedule a video call and walk through it together.

Do I need a lawyer for this?

Not for the Kit itself. The Life Management Instructions Kit™ is not a legally binding document—it’s a personal planning tool that captures the logistics: who’s involved, where things are located, what needs to happen, and when. It’s designed to help your loved ones step in with confidence during times of transition or crisis.

That said, we highly recommend consulting with an attorney to create the legally binding documents that go hand-in-hand with the Kit—like a will, power of attorney, or healthcare directive. When you walk into a professional’s office already organized, it not only saves time and money, it makes it easier for your advisors to collaborate across legal, financial, and medical matters. This kit sets the stage for that collaboration.

I’m young and healthy—why would I need this?

Because life happens. If you were in an accident tomorrow, would anyone know how to access your accounts, contact your landlord, or pay your bills?

What if I don’t have a spouse or kids?

That’s exactly why this matters. If no one is automatically “in charge,” this Kit helps ensure someone you trust can step in with clarity.

How long does it take to fill out?

You can complete the basics in a weekend. Most people do it in stages—starting with what’s easy and building from there.

What if my life changes?

That's exactly what we designed the Kit for, a long-term tool that hopefully you won't have to used for a very long time. The Kit is fully editable. You can update it anytime and re-save or reprint as needed. Both the Insights Guide and the Assist Guide provide tips on how to have periodic reviews to keep your Instructions up to date.

What if I live outside the U.S. or have international assets?

The Life Management Instructions Kit™ is designed primarily for U.S. citizens with U.S.-based assets, accounts, and benefits. Many of the planning tools and prompts — such as personal contacts, digital access, and care preferences — are universally helpful.

However, if you live abroad or hold assets in other countries, the Kit does not include country-specific forms or guidance for those jurisdictions. In those cases, we recommend using the Kit as a foundational organizer, then consulting a local advisor to address international considerations.

Think of it as your global starting point — but not your final destination if your life spans borders.
